Designing Direction, Rooted in Nature
As the designer behind the level 3 skybridge connecting Texas Children’s Hospital’s Pavilion for Women to the new Tower II, I tackled the challenge of crafting a cohesive patient experience that bridged the buildings’ distinct color palettes and aesthetic. My challenge was to harmonize the Pavilion’s blue tones with the lavender hues of Tower II while enhancing the journey between them.
To bring this vision to life, I introduced dichroic film for a captivating color-shifting effect, paired with natural wood and acrylic accents. I also designed nature-inspired graphics echoing South Texas wildflowers, infusing vibrancy into the space. The result is a visually stimulating yet welcoming environment that enhances patient flow and experience.
The design features textured wall coverings, CNC-cut wood leaves with contrasting acrylic inlays, and scorched, bent acrylic leaves piercing the wall—all secured with hidden security hardware. Supported by a skilled team, I was able to execute this intricate blend of materials and concepts, creating a space that reflects both innovation and care.
