OUTsmart Magazine Zodiac Illustrations

In 2020, OutSmart, Houston’s LGBTQIA+ magazine, asked me to draw the twelve zodiac signs for their yearly AstroCast. I wanted every reader to find themselves somewhere in the set, so I built the characters from my own friends: all different faces, all different kinds of people, each one wearing their sign.

What came out was twelve kings and queens of the stars, a little dreamy, a little weird. Aries got electric blue horns. Cancer got rose-tinted glasses. Sagittarius got a bow and arrows, aimed at hope and love instead of anything sharp. Each portrait ran in the magazine one month at a time, so people got a new one with every issue.
